FOREST RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Forest research and development activities are conducted by forest technicians of the Research and Development Division, focused on all aspects of silviculture including the Indonesian Selective Logging with Replanting System, Selective Logging with Line Planting System and other activities on forest utilizations. Research and development activities are conducted to generate data information that are useful to forest management operations and are either solely and independently conducted by the company or otherwise executed jointly with the assistance and participation of Local Universities or Forestry consultants, and also joint cooperation are developed with international institutions, such as Tropical Forest Foundation (TFF), The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Wana Aksara, etc. Some research has been and is still being conducted to support the successful implementation of silvicultural systems in Sarpatim, to include:
- Research for development of tree breeding in collaboration with experts from the Gadjah Mada University (UGM), namely:
- Research in progeny test or heredity test to obtain superior species
- Plant species test
- The study of ex-situ conservation
- The study of seed stands, pruning and growth media
- Research in the areas/aspects of production (researchers from the forestry department), namely:
- Research on the exploitation factor (Fe)
- Research on the effectiveness of Reduced Impact Logging (RIL) or environmentally friendly logging
